Ag. ovatifolia
NB. The plant shown as ovatifolia is actually labelled as parrasana. Ovatifolia was formally described by Starr & Villareal in 2002
but in fact had been around for many years beforehand. It was collected in Nuevo Leon and listed in 1894 by Mrs Anna Nickels
as agave noah. In 1911 Trelease classified agave noah as synonymous with agave wizliseni and for many years it was considered
as agave parrasana.
Kew received their original plant from the Hanbury Gardens at La Mortola in 1933 which would explain why it was labelled as
agave parrasana.
Gentry in 1982 continued to consider wizlizeni as a synonym of agave parrasana but Ullrich in 1992 felt it was more allied to parryi.
